Three-panel red lacquer screen by the Galeries Lafayette department store, designed by Maurice Dufrène or Jacques Adnet in the 1930s.

LA MAÎTRISE (GRANDS MAGASINS OF THE GALERIES LAFAYETTE)

Modernist three-panel screen with carmine red paneling and old gold patinated tubular metal.

Brown leather hinges.

Circa 1930-1935.

Height of each panel: 166 cm – Width of each panel: 45 cm.

Note :

This screen was part of an important set of furniture by La Maîtrise, specifically by Maurice Dufrène, created over several years. Most of these pieces were exceptional items that had been (or whose designs had been) exhibited at the major salons of the time (Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, Salon d'Automne, etc.).

It is more than likely that this screen was designed by Maurice Dufrène, who, although little known, designed tubular furniture, which was rare at the time, or by Jacques Adnet, who took over the management of La Maîtrise in 1928.
