History:

French interior designer Paul Follot was one of the pioneers of Art Deco. Although his early work was marked by the curves and counter-curves of Art Nouveau, he quickly transitioned to a new style, as evidenced by these chairs created between 1911 and 1913, richly carved with backs featuring a bouquet of roses surrounded by stylised foliage. Their lines, ahead of their time, heralded the birth of Art Deco nearly fifteen years before the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. The accuracy and elegance of the forms and the floral motifs of these chairs are characteristics that would persist throughout his work.
