HESS & ROM – BERLIN

Stylised flowers and foliage

Large armchair with high backrest in solid cherry wood, with richly carved decoration.

Before 1900.

Height: 139 cm – Width: 75 cm – Depth: 72.5 cm

History:

Founded in 1872, Hess & Rom, a Berlin furniture manufacturer, is behind this important high-backed armchair with richly carved decoration. Its arched armrests and backrest are defined by a decoration of stylised flowers and foliage, echoed in the silk damask of its seat, which was modelled on the tapestry in the rooms of Ludwigslust Castle in Germany, redesigned by Johann Georg Barca (1781-1826).
